SHH was founded in 1991 by David Spence, Graham Harris and Neil Hogan. It is an internationally acclaimed and award-winning Interior Design and Chartered Architecture firm, practising from West London which is dedicated to creating world-class projects with integrity, intelligence and talent.
Today we are going to explore the Trafalgar Square Hotel & Rooftop Bar in London. Working alongside with the hospitality giant Hilton on its first Curio Collection property in the United Kingdom, SHH led the multi-million-pound renovation, turning the only hotel in London’s Trafalgar Square into a ‘sanctuary of style’ in the heart of the city.
The Trafalgar St. James Hotel has 131 bedrooms, of which 15 are suites. Every one of them has been designed with Art Deco embellishments and references to the history of the building – once housed the offices of the Cunard Steamship Company.

Sensory furnishings and bold colour choices have been used to create a sense of comfort, while art walls in the bedrooms pay tribute to London’s Trafalgar Square. Working with the existing building was a challenge as all the rooms have unique footprints and/or window type so there was a lot of coordination to undertake.
The main goal of the Rooftop was to create a destination bar and dining space that worked all year round, hence a retractable canopy, and heated space, was the solution to ensure the unpredictability of the British weather.
SHH created distinct indoor and outdoor zones to provide multiple uses including a private glasshouse for intimate events. The Rooftop is all about the stunning, uninterrupted views of Trafalgar Square and beyond London‘s skyline.
