The International Hotel & Property Awards, are hosted by design et al, a leading UK interior design magazine and this year Waldrop + Nichols has been shortlisted for the Lobby/Public Area Award for the stunning luxury hotel lobby project of the Omni Louisville. Hotel Lobbies led the way and show you the details of this iconic interior design project.

The Omni Louisville is a 612-room property features top amenities such as 225 luxury apartments, 6 dining destinations, a Mokara spa, and 70,000 square feet of meeting space. The High-End luxury hospitality design mesmerizing the jury of 2019 International Hotel & Property Awards for the impress and iconic luxury hotel lobby and integrated public areas.
Dallas-based interior architectural design firm Waldrop+Nichols studio conceived the interior spaces of Omni Louisville Hotel. The property is a skyline defining project playing a significant role in showcasing the city of Louisville as a destination city.
Waldrop+Nichols studio employed its unique proprietary design process— “spatial mythology”—to create a sense of place. Inspired by the rich history and authentic character of the city, the Omni Louisville transformed the downtown skyline of one of the most significant urban blocks into a unique and vibrant mixed-use environment.
Waldroo+Nichols draw inspiration at the iconic landmarks and lifestyle of Louisville, Kentucky to create an award-winning hotel interior design that became a foundation for economic development, urban growth and community involvement capable to offering hotel guests, residents, and locals a chance to connect and enjoy the best of a great city.
The Library Bar, designed as the “heart of the hotel”, showcases a two-story, feature-wall installation comprised of individually wrapped books depicting a steamboat floating on a river of bourbon.

With three intersecting glass towers and a rooftop pool bar, the culture and community became the platform for design, allowing the interior architectural design to be bold and dramatic while inviting. Layers of stark contrast and color seamlessly interweave throughout the property to provide visual interest and unexpected details; the blending of grit and polish.
To create a sense of place, the design translated characteristics of the property’s location to create a truly unique and authentic Louisville-inspired destination. The essence of Louisville is woven throughout the hotel and public areas with interior design elements that blend the city’s heritage, culture, and character including a bourbon bar in the hotel’s Speakeasy, a bowling alley and historical references to the Kentucky Derby.
Additional amenities include a state-of-the-art fitness center, a rooftop pool overlooking downtown, a secret speakeasy complete with a hidden entrance, and a full-service lifestyle market with numerous culinary venues, a boutique floral outlet, and curated bookstore.
Snapshots from the trusses of the Big Four Bridge, historic facades along Main Street, brick archways from the Morrisey Parking Garage, and the play of water from the Ohio Falls all seamlessly collaborate, creating a new approach and style of refined urban industrialism.
The dynamic 20,000 square foot urban lifestyle market is connected to the luxury hotel lobby and transforms Liberty Street into a pedestrian thoroughfare. The cross-section of modern vibrancy from the art’s creative community mixed with the rich heritage of Louisville creates a space completely authentic, robust and alive.
As the heart of the hotel, the luxury hotel lobby is the initial impact moment for locals and guests to feel an immediate connection to the history and future of the city, through the translation of iconic landmarks and architecture, and celebrated by the diverse representation of original commissioned artwork in a permanent exhibition space.
